That's right, Taylor Swift's next song that will be played on pop radio is called Style. In fact, I heard that one when I got myself a copy of 1989 2 months ago. Oh boy I love this song. Why? Because Style is actually more adult like than her previous 2 singles, Shake It Off and Blank Space. They're both number 1 comedy singles at the Hot 100 Billboard chart. You won't find any comedy on Style. So why you ask? I'll tell you why Style should be a 1989 single this year.
Now, as you may know that Taylor Swift’s Style goes top 40 at pop, selling 56K more copies and Style is already one of pop radio's forty most-played songs.
Now, according to Headline Planet, this past fall, Taylor Swift’s Blank Space managed to reach the official top forty at pop radio ahead of its official radio impact date.
This Sunday evening, Style will achieve that milestone prior to even being declared Swift’s next official single.
According to Mediabase, Style was pop’s 40th-most-played song during the seven days between January 3 and January 9. It commanded 781 spins within that window.
Insofar as it is gaining airplay at a rapid rate, it will face no difficulty retaining its top forty position through the Sunday issuance of Mediabase’s official airplay chart. It will thus become the third top 40 pop hit from Swift’s 1989 album even before being formally declared the project’s next single.
Obviously, such a declaration is a mere formality at this point — Swift provided Style with high-profile exposure during the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, her label boss Scott Borchetta teased that he is “leaning towards Style” as the next single and a whopping fourteen monitored Mediabase pop stations added the song this week — but the song still deserves immense credit for so quickly gaining steam.
An even more impressive performer from an audience standpoint, the song’s weekly audience impression count of 6.55 million ranks as the format’s 35th-greatest.
In addition to making gains at radio, Style was also one of only a few songs to enjoy a digital sales boost during the first tracking week of 2015 (since interested in many singles was inflated during Christmas week, they inevitably posted weaker numbers during the week ending January 4). Style moved 56,000 copies last week after moving 50,000 during Christmas week.
Style also rises to #71 on the weekly Billboard Hot 100. While not yet back to its #60 peak, it is obviously on the move.
Prospects look bright for Taylor Swift's Style. The song, which is expected to be the third single from Taylor Swift's 1989, is already a top 50 pop hit as Style is already one of pop's most-played.
While all signs–including a Tweet from her label boss Scott Borchetta–indicate “Style” will be Taylor Swift’s next single, it has not yet been formally confirmed as such. It certainly has not yet been formally pushed to radio.
Key pop stations are not waiting, however. The song, which was performed during the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and currently maintains a top thirty position on the iTunes single sales chart, is now pop’s 50th-most-played song.
According to Mediabase, the song commanded 325 plays during the week between December 30 and January 5. That marks a week-over-week increase of 175 plays.
Thanks to its support from major market stations (including Chicago’s B96 and San Francisco’s 99-7 NOW), Style ranks even more favorably from an audience standpoint. Its weekly impression count of 3.041 million is the pop format’s 40th-largest.
Other heavy early supporters include Spokane’s Now 105.7, Detroit’s 98.7 AMP, Boise’s 103.5 KISS, Long Island’s 106.1 BLI and Tampa’s Hot 101.5.
But wait, that's not all Style was new to the pop radio top 40 this week because Style is officially top 40 at pop.
Does this mean Style will be 1989's third single and Style will have a music video this February? If true, then maybe Taylor Swift will be performing Style at the 2015 Grammys. I hope so because Taylor Swift needs more music videos this year and Style along with Out Of The Woods deserves to have a music video this year. If Style will have a music video, then how about a different director directing a music video for Style. Something cheap or something like a country music video director will direct Style's music video. So how about Trey Fanjoy. Yeah. That could work. Anyway, let's continue.
Labeled “recurrent” by Mediabase, Taylor Swift’s lead 1989 single Shake it Off has officially been removed from the pop radio airplay chart.
Swift, however, still claims two positions within the chart’s top forty. In addition to holding the #1 position courtesy Blank Space, Swift also registers at #38 with Style.
Not even yet confirmed as an official single, Style rises thirteen places to officially claim its top 40 position. Per Mediabase, it received 932 spins during the January 4-10 tracking week.
(The aforementioned Blank Space retains its #1 spot on the strength of 17,627 weekly spins)
OK, that's it for this article. Let's hope all Taylor Swift singles should be played on pop radio including her non-pop singles like Mean and Red. So how about a 10th anniversary Taylor Swift single collection. That would be nice so that way every Taylor Swift single, pop or not, will be in her first greatest hits album and 2016 is right around the corner. Let's hope all her non-pop singles will be joining her pop music just in time for the 10th anniversary for Taylor Swift's career that began in 2006.
So what do you think? What do you think about Style considered to be Taylor Swift's third single? Do you think Style will have a music video this spring? Do you think the director for Style's music video will be Trey Fanjoy? Let me know in the comments below!
