Taylor Swift, her army of female friends like Ellie Goulding, and Kendrick Lamar have shattered Vevo's record for most views in a 24-hour timespan with their cinematic Bad Blood music video.
The music video for Bad Blood, which debuted Sunday at the
Billboard Music Awards, attracted 20.1 million views on Vevo.com, YouTube,
Xbox, Roku and other Vevo platforms in just 24 hours.
That tally surpassed Nicki Minaj's Anaconda, which held the
record since August 2014 with 19.6 million views. Previous record holders
include Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball (19.3 million), One Direction's Best Song
Ever (12.3 million), Miley Cyrus's We Can't Stop (10.7 million) and Justin
Bieber's Beauty and the Beat (10.6 million).
The view count for Bad Blood was bolstered by the Style
singer's clever social media campaign involving character posters for each
celebrity friend featured in the music video.
Taylor Swift immediately thanked her fans, director Joseph
Kahn (who also helmed Blank Space) and friends who each played powerful characters
resembling Hunger Games tributes.
Those involved like Vevo swiftly joined in on the excitement over the new record:
Nice, Bad Blood is such an awesome song. Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda is awful. The music video was a mess and there’s too many views on Vevo in 2014. This is why I don’t trust big inappropriates at all. I prefer big appropriates.
I must say, congrats, Taylor Swift. Now, let’s have all
Taylor Swift songs including non-pop singles played on something like pop radio and MTV and have
Taylor Swift only makes pop music forever alongside tackling new genres like
rock. Taylor Swift must resign Big Machine Records and move to something like
Republic Records (who promote Taylor Swift songs like Blank Space) so Taylor
Swift will keep her pop music career longer even when she it getting older.
Next up, Out Of The Woods and hopefully the next music to
direct by something like Trey Fanjoy later this year. Yay!
