The pop superstar shared the news with a tweet to her 61.6
million followers.
“Just wanted to let you know that the next single from 1989
will be………..,” she tweeted, “Wildest Dreams.”
The announcement sent Wildest Dreams to the top of the real
time Billboard+Twitter Trending 140 Chart.
The single follows her four previous number 1 singles in the
US from 1989 – Shake It Off (Billboard Hot 100 chart, 4 weeks), Blank Space
(Billboard Hot 100, 7 weeks), Style (Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40,
Mainstream Top 40), and Bad Blood (Billboard Hot 100). All 4 number 1 1989
singles reached the top Billboard Hot 100 chart (Shake It Off, Blank Space and
Style topped the Billboard Hot 100 while Style peaked at number 6) and all four
of those tunes also topped the Pop Songs airplay chart.
1989 has sold 5.1 million copies in the US, according to
Nielsen Music and was 2014’s best selling album (with 3.7 million sold last
year). It is also 2015’s best seller, so far, with another 1.4 million moved
this year.
Oh boy, I’m so exciting for Wildest Dreams. I’m looking
forward to Wildest Dreams as the next single. Why? Because fans loved that song
better than number 1 radio hits like We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.
Trust me, 1989 needs a non-number 1 in the US. Taylor Swift needs to stop
overpaying number 1s like Shake It Off and pop songs like I Knew You Were
Trouble. Trust me, Taylor Swift needs to bring back non-number 1s.
Come to think of it, all four 1989 singles were number 1s,
Shake It Off, Blank Space, and Bad Blood reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot
100 while Style along with the 3 said 1989 singles topped the Pop Songs chart.
But no non-number 1s. Let’s think of this way, Taylor Swift’s 2006 self-titled
album only have 2 number 1s (Our Song and Should’ve Said No). Fearless also
only have 2 number 1s (Love Story and You Belong With Me) and Speak Now has 4
number 1s (Mine, Mean, Sparks Fly, and Ours). Red once again goes back to just
2 number 1s (We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and I Knew You Were
Trouble). 1989, on the other hand, only have number 1s and that tears me apart.
I want my non-number 1s back, Taylor Swift and 1989 needs a non-number 1 which
is Wildest Dreams. Taylor Swift singles missed number 1 peaks will not alienate
Taylor Swift song topping number 1s. So it’s a good idea for Taylor Swift to
take a break from number 1s and go back to singles missed number 1 peaks. So
something like Back To December and 22 did miss number 1 peaks. So if something
like Picture To Burn and Begin Again missed US number 1 peaks, so can Wildest
Dreams. That’s just my opinion.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to Wildest Dreams as Taylor
Swift’s next single off of 1989 and hopefully one more single. But I assume
that Wildest Dreams will be the last 1989 single if necessary and later on, she
will be doing her 2015 single with Calvin Harris and then next year, greatest
hits will all the singles included for 2016. So I was thinking that Bad Blood along with Shake It Off, Blank Space and Style will continue to play on the radio so that way, Wildest Dreams will only play small airplays before radio takes off Wildest Dreams by the end of this year.
Sounds like a good choice for a 1989 single.
